Selling Property
How should I prepare a home for a marketing video walkthrough?
Prepare the home as you would for photographs, then agree the route, privacy limits and filming details with the agent. Review the finished video for accuracy before it is circulated.
Plan the route and privacy
Ask the agent which rooms, outdoor areas and approaches the video will show, and whether narration or labels will be added. Remove personal documents, photographs, valuables, medication and visible security information. Tell the agent clearly which rooms, views or neighbouring areas must not be filmed.
Tidy surfaces, make beds, clear walkways and check that doors and lights work as intended. Secure pets and arrange a time that does not expose occupants or disrupt essential routines. If the property is occupied, ensure everyone understands when filming will take place and how access will be controlled.
Keep the recording representative
A smooth route helps viewers understand the layout, but do not use camera angles or editing to hide material defects or give a false impression of room size, access or views. Mention anything that could be misunderstood, such as a locked room or a feature that is not included. Ask how the video will be stored, shared and removed when no longer needed.
Review the completed video before publication. Check that the sequence matches the actual home, private information is not visible and captions or spoken statements are correct. Request a correction if the content is inaccurate or reveals something you asked to keep private. Keep the approved version and the agent’s publication details. For legal or technical claims made in the video, obtain professional confirmation before they are stated as fact.
Practical considerations
