Buying Property

How should I organise my attendance on purchase completion day?

Ask your lawyer and notary for a confirmed plan covering attendance, identification, signing, payments and handover. Avoid fixed travel assumptions until they explain what is ready and what remains outstanding.

Confirm what attendance involves

Establish where the signing is expected to take place, who must attend and which original documents are needed. Ask how interpretation or translation will be handled so you understand the deed and any accompanying documents. Check whether your AFM and identity details match the records being used.

If a representative will attend for you, have your lawyer and notary verify the required authority and its scope in advance. Do not assume a general permission letter will be sufficient.

Coordinate signing and practical handover

Request a written outline of the payment arrangements and verify account instructions through a trusted route. Ask your advisers how outstanding conditions, final checks and any last-minute document changes will be addressed before signing.

Separately agree when keys, access devices, equipment instructions and meter information will be handed over. Clarify which registration or other follow-up steps remain after the appointment and who will confirm them. Your lawyer and notary should verify the transaction’s formal requirements; the appointment itself should not be treated as proof that every subsequent administrative task is finished.

Practical considerations

  • Confirm documents and interpretation needs.
  • Verify representative authority in advance.
  • Keep a reliable last-minute contact route.
  • Separate signing, handover and follow-up tasks.
