THE SPACE
Zeus 4 is one of the Zeus villas at Kounali Mountain Resort. It is not a party house and it is not a hotel suite. It is 120 m² of quiet on a hillside, with two bedrooms upstairs, living space below, and a private pool that holds the sun all afternoon.
The house is deliberately simple: white walls, cool floors, glass doors, and a terrace with a table, chairs and a barbecue you may never light. Both bedrooms have queen beds and their own bathrooms. Air conditioning and heating keep the temperature where you want it; the Wi-Fi is there if you want it, and ignorable if you don't.
What you notice first is the sound — or the absence of it. Wind in the trees, a scooter going home for lunch, the pool filter switching itself on. Guests who arrive wound tight tend to be unrecognisable by day three.
There are stairs between the floors, which is a free workout, and a small gym in the resort if that is not enough.
THE QUIET
Mornings here have a shape. The light comes over the mountain, the water is still, and the first swim happens before the coffee is finished. Then a walk up the lane for bread, or nothing at all.
The resort's gym has a treadmill, a spin bike, free weights and a squat rack. The padel court and the basketball hoop are usually empty. Beyond the gate, lanes run through olive groves to villages where nobody hurries, and the Milatos cave is a five minute drive and an easy walk.
If you want a beach, the coast is ten to fifteen minutes away — quiet pebbles at Milatos, small coves at Sissi. If you want a restaurant with a view, Sissi and Agios Nikolaos have plenty. The point is that you can have either, then come back up the hill and hear nothing again.
GUEST ACCESS
Your own villa, private pool, terrace and parking space — nobody shares them with you.
Included in the resort: the saltwater infinity pool and sunbeds (May to October), the gym, padel tennis, basketball, the playground and the snack bar.
Check-in from 15:00 with resort staff; check-out by 11:00. Linen and towels are provided.
INTERACTION WITH GUESTS
We keep things simple and answer quickly. Tell us what you need — a later breakfast, a massage in the villa, a table somewhere quiet — and we will arrange it through the resort where we can. Otherwise we will leave you to it, which is usually the point.
NEIGHBORHOOD OVERVIEW
Kounali is the kind of village you drive through by accident and remember for years: a hundred houses, a church, and one taverna that has fed the same families since 1921. It is 200 m from the villa, and dinner there is the nearest thing to a plan you will need all week.
Ten to fifteen minutes down the hill, the coast offers the opposite: beaches at Milatos and Sissi, harbour tavernas, a little nightlife in Malia if the mood takes you, and the marina at Agios Nikolaos half an hour away for a smarter evening. Heraklion airport is fifty minutes.
GETTING AROUND
A car is what gives the silence its value: you can be on a beach in ten to fifteen minutes and back on the hill before the afternoon crowds arrive.
Milatos 6 km · Sissi 10 km · Malia 17 km · Agios Nikolaos 23 km · Heraklion airport 49 km. Parking behind the gate.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE
Two en-suite queen bedrooms plus a guest WC; stairs between floors.
Private pool available throughout your stay; the shared saltwater pool is seasonal (May–October).
Air conditioning and heating, so the house works outside high summer too.
Quiet hours after 23:00 — this is a village, and the neighbours are not on holiday.
