Villa Hera 3

Hera 3 is one of the Hera villas at Kounali Mountain Resort — 130 m², three bedrooms, three bathrooms, and a private pool that will end up in most of your photographs.

The ground floor is one open space: kitchen at one end, a table for six in the middle, sofas at the other, and glass doors along the side that open onto the terrace. It is built for the part of a group holiday that actually matters — everyone in the same room, nobody driving anywhere.

Upstairs, three bedrooms and enough bathrooms that six adults can get ready for dinner without a rota. Outside: the pool, sunbeds, a barbecue and a table that seats all of you at once, which is rarer than it should be.

Also there: Wi-Fi, air conditioning, a washing machine, a full-size fridge for the shopping run, and two parking spaces behind the gate. And stairs, in case anyone is carrying the wine.

Birthdays, reunions, the trip that has been postponed three times: the house takes them without fuss. There is a long table inside and another outside, a barbecue for the first night, and a taverna 200 m away that has been feeding celebrations since 1921.

Resort facilities included: the shared saltwater infinity pool and sunbeds (May to October), padel and basketball courts, the gym, the playground and the snack bar.

Check-in from 15:00 with resort staff; check-out by 11:00. Linen and towels are provided.

We have hosted groups on this hill for years and we know what they need: a table big enough, two parking spaces, and a host who answers fast. Message us for restaurant bookings, a boat to Spinalonga, or a taxi on the night nobody wants to drive home. Resort managers are on site during the day.

Kounali gives a group exactly what it wants: somewhere to be loud without disturbing anyone, and somewhere quiet to recover the next morning.

The taverna is 200 m up the lane — long tables, whatever is in the pot, and no hurry to turn the table over. It is the natural first night and, predictably, the last.

Ten to fifteen minutes downhill, the coast supplies the rest of the week: harbour tavernas at Milatos, waterfront bars and very good restaurants at Sissi, the bigger beaches and later nights of Malia at twenty minutes, and Agios Nikolaos half an hour east for the marina and a smarter dinner.

Two cars suit six people, and both fit behind the gate. The coast is ten to fifteen minutes away; the drive home is the same road, quieter, in the dark.
